A Poem For Kenz

A year ago today,

You changed our lives for good.

You allowed us to have something

We never knew we could.

It started with a message

That shared your age and name

And quickly turned to friendship

Things would never be the same

It was absolutely meant to be

We know it from the start

You’d be much more than just a friend

You’d be forever in our hearts

We talked so much, right off the bat

We had so much to say

We had such common interest

We talked and talked all day

We shared a love for eating

We shared a love for dance

We even shared some movies

This could not have been by chance

We shared each others clothes

We shared a bathroom too

We shared so much, I can’t recall

Did it belong to me or you?

We’ve shared a lot of things since then

But one is greater than any other

To one special boy, whom we love so much

We share the title ‘Mother’

I change his diapers, give him baths

And feed him crackers too.

But you and he shared 9 whole months

Just the two of you

I might be the mommy,

Who’ll deal with his sadness and strife

But you, Kenz are the mommy

Who gave our sweet son life

We’ve shared so much this past year

We’ve laughed and we’ve cried too

And there’s no one I’d rather share mommy-hood with

Than my biggest hero, YOU.

Kenz,

On the 6th of this month it will be one year since you first e-mailed us. So much has changed since then, but one thing that will never change is how much we love you. Thank you for giving us the greatest gift anyone in the world could have ever given. We love you more than words can say and we hope we get to see you really, really soon. We love you!
